Snowstorm is considered as one of the most dangerous and deadliest kinds of natural disaster and Nepal have experienced its horrific rage last October 14, 2014. This tragic incident happened on the mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna where forty-one persons have died and hundreds were injured, they were rushed to the nearest hospital in the city using a helicopter so they can receive medical treatment right away. Experts said that this snowstorm is one of the strongest that hit Nepal this year and also an unexpected one, because snowstorms are not usual during this month.
October is the perfect month for trekking in Nepal that is why hundreds of hikers were either on top or around the mountains when the terrible incident happened. Communication was slightly interrupted as well and this caused panic to the missing person’s loved ones. Majority of the hikers were just stranded and was rescued right away but unfortunately, forty-one of them did not survive. Some said that the reason behind this horrible accident is an avalanche but the survivors testified that it was indeed a snowstorm that took the life of their fellow hikers.
It is truly a traumatic experience for the victims who almost died with this snowstorm attack. Some of them even attended different kinds of therapies just to get rid of the emotional trauma. However, majority of hikers said that they would still continue to hike while some of them already started to look for a different kind of hobby, a less extreme perhaps.
