Thailand has been vulnerable to natural disaster like floods that has caused serious devastations to the country. This is because of Thailand’s tropical savanna climate.
One of the worst flooding phenomenons in Thailand happened in the later part of July 2011. It is a severe flood triggered by the Tropical Storm Nock-ten as it landfalls. The flood swept through Central and Northeastern Thailand along the Chao Phraya river basins and Mekong. The provinces of Northern Thailand were also badly affected. The flood did not subside until mid of January 2012 which resulted to a total record of deaths of 815. There are over thirteen million of people affected by the flood. From Thailand’s 77 provinces, 65 of which were declared as flood disaster zone.
Aside from human damages, the flood has left an estimated damages amounting to 1, 425 billion baht including economic damages and private properties. The flood has also caused a significant impact to trade industry especially among neighboring countries of Thailand.
In 2010, a series of related flash floods hit different areas of Thailand including Central and Northern Thailand. This was caused by the abnormally late monsoon moisture that triggered the Chao Phraya to overflow. The flood has greatly affected Bangkok which is the capital city of Thailand. The flood has a record of 232 people dead and over 7 million people affected in more than 25, 000 villages all over the country. The water level did not subside for weeks making 38 provinces submerged in water for quite a long time. This flood has also left grave damages to properties and infrastructures.
These are just two of the deadliest floods that had swept through Thailand.
Just like any other calamities, the deadliest floods can leave countless damages to people. These damages make moving on very hard for everyone. However, no matter how devastating it might be, people must not lose hope. Everyone must believe that everything happens for a bigger purpose.
In every calamity, there must be hope. It will be natural for people to feel depressed and worried after a calamity. It might be difficult to think about the future. However, no matter how difficult it is, it is never difficult to hope.
In every calamity, there must be nation. Loving and caring for each other are just two things that made a group of people in a community a nation. There is no hard struggle when people are working together. After the flood, everybody must hope for tomorrow and fight the sorrow hand in hand. No flood can submerge a country when there is unity and hope.
