Natural Disasters Japan 2013
Japan is a popular tourist destination. Likewise, it is a popular natural disasters destination. Natural Disasters Japan 2013 is a long list of devastating events that left a lot of people mourning, that left a lot of structures in ruins, and that left other people in different parts of the world looking for ways on how they can reach out to this Asian country. As a matter of fact, two out of the five biggest natural disasters in the world. The losses on these two events reached almost $200 billion. However, for 2013 alone, 17 natural disasters took place in Japan and these are no minor natural disasters.
Akita Snowstorm
The snowstorm took place on January 5. This snowstorm caused eight climbers to be stranded and two more to be missing. The stranded climbers were rescued, though, and was brought back safely from Mount Chokai. This is the earliest Natural Disasters Japan 2013.
Shiojiri City Snowstorm
This snowstorm may not be the first of the year but is the first one to leave a person dead and about 900 persons hurt. It took place on January 15. On this day, the roads seemed to be blanketed with layers of snow.
Hokkaido Earthquake (M 6.9)
This earthquake took place on the second day of February. This earthquake claimed at least ten people. The people in Sapporo and other neighboring Tokyo regions felt the earthquake. Fortunately, no tsunami followed.
Hokkaido Snowstorm
This snowstorm is another one of Natural Disasters Japan 2013 which claimed lives. Nine people died and these include a mother and her three kids who all died of carbon monoxide poisoning and a father who wrapped himself to his daughter. It was not done in vain as his daughter survived.
Japanese Storm
This storm took place on April 8. This was caused by a couple of low pressure systems. It claimed lives of at least three people.
Sumoto, Honshu Earthquake
This is perhaps, one of the most devastating natural disasters of 2013. It left more than 30 people hurt, about 4000 houses damaged, and a couple of houses destroyed. It took place on April 12.
Mt. Shirouma Avalanche
This took place on a weekend and it left three people dead. It happened on April 29.
Western Japan Floods and Mudslides
These floods and mudslides took place on July 28. It claimed the lives of at least two people.
Central Alps Severe Weather
This bad weather caused the death of a small group of Korean climbers. Three of them died while one of them went missing. It took place on July 30.
Earthquake
Some people are confused whether there was an earthquake in Japan on August 8. It turned out to be a 2.3 magnitude earthquake!
Iwate Floods
These floods took place on August 9. It took the lives of two people and left five persons missing.
Sakurahima Volcanic Eruption
This powerful volcanic eruption took place on August 19.
Gotsu Flood
This flood took place on August 24 and left one person missing.
Tokyo Tornado
This tornado happened in September 2. It left more than sixty people hurt.
Tochigi Tornado
This tornado took place on September 4 and left two people hurt.
Typhoon Man-yi
People feared for the damage that this September 15 typhoon may cause to the Fukushima plant. It also left 200 different flights cancelled.
