Haiti Earthquake 2010 Robust, callous, ruthless – January 12, 2010 could have turned out to be one typical day for the people of Haiti yet things turned out to unimaginable and unforgettable in an atrocious manner. In fraction of seconds, properties were shattered, innocent lives we’re taken, leaving the people of Haiti with nothing. That day marked one of the most tragic disasters ever witnessed by man. After the earthquake, the people were incognizant and clueless on how they’re going to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives. No food, no water, no electricity, the lives of the people were paralleled with hell. Port au Prince is the largest and capital city of the Caribbean country of Haiti. There economy is greatly dependent on the products that they export to other countries, such as coffee and sugar. Despite their wobbly and rickety economy, it serves as a home to some of the world’s breathtaking sceneries. The catastrophe hit the country by storm. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake was reported to have taken more than 200 thousand lives. Imagine the terror of losing thousands of individuals in just a blink of an eye. Its mind blowing, spine-tingling, moreover, it’s heart breaking. Nearly 300 thousand houses were badly damaged and destroyed leaving a number of 1.5 million homeless. Home is a sanctuary for many, imagine losing the only place in this world where you can seek for care and keeps you protected from danger. Imagine investing both your sweat and blood, working a lifetime in order to provide shelter for your family. A number of 4,000 schools were damaged and destroyed. Imagine yourself whining all the time how school sucks yet you have here a bunch of young children whose only hope to rise up from the quicksand of poverty, gone. Imagine even after the upheaval when everyone thought that their misery ends there that is where they thought it wrong. Everything got even dreadful for the people of Haiti. A cholera outbreak was accounted to have infected more than 200 thousand people. Five thousand of them eventually died. Appalling as it is it but this became an eye-opener for many. Immediately after the earthquake, medical, food and fund assistance coming from NGO’s ad other organizations were facilitated and sent in order to help the people of Haiti. People from all walks of life, celebrity to business tycoons, and even ordinary people in all parts of the globe joined hand in hand to ease the saddle that the people are bearing during those dark times. It is truly remarkable how moments like this can unite the world in order to help our siblings from other nations. Above all, it the dependence of the people to their faith that makes them strong and hopeful amidst all the encumbrances that life has to give. It is God who is the divine and sole reason for our existence never gave us something that we cannot overcome. Stay strong because after the rainy day the sun will come shining in your life again. So, there’s no hating, just Haiti.
